SOLAS – Clothes swap and Farmer’s Market this weekend

SOLAS

After a record-breaking week of food sales at SOLAS last weekend, the Eco Garden centre is expected a bumper crowd again this weekend with a 100% sold out farmers market on Saturday and a ‘Clothes Swap’ event from 11am-4pm on Sunday.

David Maher of SOLAS said: “The success of the last clothes swap (over 500 items of clothing were swapped on the day) meant that we just had to run this event again.

“It is great to see how the public have embraced the concept of giving a second life to perfectly good clothes – and hopefully it will make people get away from seeing ‘disposable fashion’ as an acceptable option.

“It is all about colour, fun and community which is really the cornerstone of what SOLAS is built on.”

At SOLAS no one likes to repeat themselves but just to say one more time – ‘Wow what an amazing success ‘Moo-Cow’ milk has been over the week or so’.

Sometimes to see the hordes (clutching their bottles) heading towards the vending machines is almost like a scene from ‘The Walking Dead’ as the customers are focused on getting the fix of dairy goodness.

Moo-Cow milk now operates 6 days a week – from 7.30am on Tuesday through to closing time (6pm) on Sunday.

Almost forgot to mention SOLAS won ‘Start-up New Business of the Year’ at the Laois Chamber of Commerce business awards last Friday night. Take a bow everyone at SOLAS.

SOLAS Events

Booking for the inaugural Santa experience @ SOLAS is going extremely week with well over 200 tickets (€10 each) sold so far.

It is part of an incredible range of events and markets which will be running up to 4 days (and nights) a week at SOLA starting on 27th November.

SOLAS – FOOD

Specials for weekend

  • Breaded chicken burger with garlic mayo, salad and chips
  • Beef lasagne with garlic bread, chips and coleslaw.

Note the covered food courtyard and the 60-seater indoor heated ‘Cosy’ café are both days over the weekend. The manning levels this weekend have been increased in light of the huge crowds which attended SOLAS last weekend.

Saturday’s Farmers’ Market

This Saturday 12th November 10am-2pm will see a full market with a wonderful range of bakery, fresh meat, fish and organic beef.

Our featured stall this week is:

‘Moo-Cow’ Milk and shakes available in the market all weekend.

SOLAS – Plants

This Week Solas Eco Garden Shop ‘Plant of the Week’ is the huge range of Bareroot hedging which has just arrived in stock over the last week.

Why bareroot?

  • This is the perfect time to plant bareroot as the hedge will have the whole winter to ‘settle in’
  • Bareroot is normally 50-60% cheaper than buying potted plants
  • Bareroot is more eco-friendly – as avoids the use of pots and other packaging

SOLAS Weather

The weather forecast is for temperatures of up to 15 degrees and mainly dry. So overall good for a busy weekend of events.
