Sharon Crean RIP

A Laois man has been charged with the murder of a Mountmellick mother of one following an incident on Wednesday.

Sean Egan, aged 36, with an address of Rathmiles, Portarlington, has been charged with murdering 34-year-old Sharon Crean at College Avenue in Mountmellick.

He appeared before Portlaoise District Court this morning where he was charged with the offence.

Sharon Crean was originally from Arklow but had been living in Laois for the last number of years.

Ms Crean was discovered with serious injuries at approximately 4.45pm on Wednesday at a residence at College Avenue in the town.

Sean Egan was subsequently arrested and brought to Portlaoise Garda Station.

Gardai there charged him with murder last night and he was brought before Portlaoise District Court this morning.

In court today, the State applied for a remand in custody until next Thursday and this was granted by Judge Andrew Cody.

The district court does not have jurisdiction to grant bail on murder charges.

Sean Egan has been remanded in custody and will appear again before the court on Thursday December 22.
