The 2022 GLAS (Green Low-Carbon Agri-Environmental Scheme) balancing payments have commenced this week.

Under the payments, farmers in Laois will receive over €315,000, a Laois TD has confirmed.

The Green, Low-Carbon, Agri-Environment Scheme (GLAS) provides payments to farmers to help tackle climate change, preserve biodiversity, protect habitats and promote environmentally-friendly farming.

Minister for State Sean Fleming says that the payments are being delivered ahead of schedule.

Deputy Fleming said: “I’m very pleased to see this balancing payment commencing under the Green Low Carbon Agri Environmental Scheme which will see farmers in Laois will receive over €315k.

“These payments are ahead of schedule and will be a significant bonus for farmers across Laois.

“The GLAS scheme is a very important payment for farm families in order to support them in implementing measures to tackle climate change and preserve habitats and biodiversity on their farmland.

“Farmers across Ireland are doing their bit to protect the environment and I want to thank Minister McConalogue for his support of farm families in Laois.”
