The draw has been made for Round 1 of the 2023 FAI Cup where there is huge Laois interest.
Darren Rogers’ Portlaoise have been drawn to face Skerries Town next month in the first round proper.
They are also a Leinster Senior League team and although in a higher division, Portlaoise will certainly have a chance of making it through.
Portlaoise are due to be at home but fixtures details will be confirmed shortly.
Darren Rogers’ charges have reached this stage of the national competition for the first time in three decades.
They made the cup following a fantastic victory over Usher Celtic back in April.
There is other Laois interest in the draw too as two League of Ireland First Division clubs contain Laois players.
Colin Conroy is with Treaty United and they have been draw against fellow Munster side Cork City.
While his former Portlaoise AFC teammate Aaron Doran now plies his trade with Wexford Youths and they will take on Avondale United.
Cobh Ramblers are managed by Rathdowney native Shane Keegan and they have been drawn away to UCD.
The draw for Round 1 of the Women’s FAI Cup was also made where there are several Laois players involved.
Emily Corbet, Kylie Murphy, Ciamh Dollard and Della Doherty all play for Wexford Youths who have been drawn away to DLR Waves.
Emo native Gillian Keenan is starring for Athlone Town at present and they are at home to Galway United.
