    1 – Fr Paddy – The Cost of ‘Stars’

    We have lived through the consequences of poor governance and its drastic consequences from church to banking, the latest on this island is our national broadcaster.

    RTÉ did what institutions tend to do; it created an elite and inevitably a culture of precedence and entitlement followed.

    2 – In Pictures: Rain fails to dampen the enjoyment as second year of Forest Fest proves a big success

    The rain fell but the craic was mighty as the crowds flocked to Emo over the weekend for the second installment of Forest Fest.

    Around 10,000 music lovers flocked to the Laois village and by the looks of it, they were not disappointed.

    3 – Laois County Council called upon to act to clean up ‘dirtiest river in Ireland’

    Laois County Council have been called upon to take action to clean up a river that has been described as the ‘dirtiest in Ireland’.

    Independent Councillor Ollie Clooney made the comments in relation to the River Gully at a recent meeting of the County Council.

    4 – Cistercian College Roscrea announces new Deputy Head of Boarding and Dean of Study

    Cistercian College Roscrea haved announced the appointment of Mr Frank Kelly as Deputy Head of Boarding and Dean of Study.

    Mr Kelly joins Cistercian College with a wealth of experience and knowledge of boarding schools in Ireland.

    5 – Serious questions arise following Bord na Mona application for historic peat extraction

    It has emerged that Bord na Mona is to seek consent from An Bord Pleanála for historic peat extraction at the Garryhinch and Garrymore bogs.

    The bogs form part of the Allen Bog Group.

    6 – Almost €25,000 raised as Laois dad enters the final of day of phenomenal fundraising effort

    A Laois dad is on the final day of a phenomenal fundraising walk where he has raised a staggering sum of almost €25,000.

    Dermot McGann is from Ballacolla and is set to land in Mizen Head today, 13 days after he began at Malin Head.

    7 – New tourist accommodation for Main Street in Portlaoise gets the green light

    Plans have been given the go-ahead to develop tourist accommodation at a location on Main Street in Portlaoise.

    The development is for a vacant shop front building which is listed on the Record of Protected Structures – the former Adams Chemist, at Number 58, Main Street.

    8 – 16 young players to watch out for as the 2023 Laois SFC is set to get underway

    The 2023 Laois SFC gets underway this evening and is set to keep us all very busy from now until October.

    There are a total of eight games to look forward to this week – one Wednesday, one on Thursday, two on Friday and four on Saturday.

    9 – In Pictures: A place to meet, have a chat, connect and immerse yourself in local heritage – Timahoe Heritage Centre

    The village of Timahoe was in prestine condition as a special guest arrived earlier this week to officially open the Timahoe Heritage Centre.

    The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, saw first hand the rich history of the Round Tower and the ambitious future plans for its development.

    10 – Rosenallis GAA unveil €100,000 cash prize draw during launch of new clubhouse plans and official opening of ball wall

    One lucky person could be walking away with €100,000 or a New Holland T5.120 tractor as part of Rosenallis GAA’s latest fundraiser.

    The club’s “most ambitious fundraiser yet” aims to bring in funds to build a new clubhouse to support and promote GAA in the area for many years to come.
