Former Tipperary player joins Cistercian College Roscrea as Head Hurling Coach

Local school Cistercian College Roscrea has announced that former Tipperary player and coach Tommy Dunne will take over as Head Hurling Coach for the 2023/2024 season, coaching both Junior and Senior teams at the College.

Dunne enjoyed a distinguished playing career with his club, Toomevara, winning multiple club honours for the Greyhounds.

In Tipperary colours, he was honoured with one all-Ireland title as captain, two Munster titles, three National Hurling League titles and three All-star awards.

Since then, Dunne has gone on to distinguish himself as an All Ireland winning coach within the Tipperary Minor and U-21 teams, before moving on to coach the Tipperary Senior Hurling team.

“This appointment of Mr Dunne will be a great addition to the Hurling programme at the College,” CCR said in a statement.

“Cistercian College has always enjoyed a strong reputation for excellence in sports and extracurricular activities. In addition to Rugby, Hurling is one of the main sports played by students at Cistercian College.

“This year alone saw the CCR Senior Hurling team become North Leinster Champions having completed a season of exceptional hurling.”

Director of Sport at Cistercian College, Mr Brendan McKeogh said of the appointment:

We are thrilled to have Tommy on board as Head Hurling coach. We know the boys and the other coaches will benefit greatly from his huge experience as both a player and a coach.

“Coupled with a leading edge Strength and Conditioning programme, Cistercian College continues to be very attractive for any students who wants to avail of best in class hurling coaching with a holistic education that combines quality teaching with a structured study program.”
