The second of the Portlaoise RFC sponsored scholarships for a student attending St Mary’s CBS, Portlaoise was presented to Dylan Clear this week.

Last season St Mary’s made huge inroads on the rugby front culminating with the winning of the Leinster Rugby Development School of the Year award.

Portlaoise RFC made the decision to sponsor two Rugby Scholarships to the value of €500 each for two incoming first years for September 2023.

The scholarship consists of €250 voucher for Shaws, Portlaoise towards the cost of the student’s uniform.

Plus a €250 voucher for All Books, Portlaoise towards the cost of books and stationary.

The other scholarship winner was Jack Downey and he received his award last week.

The decision to sponsor two Rugby Scholarships came on the back of a wonderful year for St Mary’s CBS, Portlaoise.

The school made it to both the senior and junior finals of the Leinster Schools Rugby, held in a snowy Energia Park, Donnybrooke back in December.

The seniors were 18-12 winners in the Anne McInerney Cup Final, with the juniors winning the Pat Rossiter Cup Final by 12-7.
