Portlaoise, Ballyroan and Castletown to get investment in water treatment plants

Three Laois water treatment plants are set to receive investment that will allow for them to be upgraded.

So says Laois TD Sean Fleming who is the Minister for State at the Department of Finance.

He says that the plane for wastewater treatment infrastructure in Portlaoise, Ballyroan and Castletown will benefit local communities.

Deputy Fleming said: “Plans are underway to upgrade the wastewater treatment plant in Portlaoise.

“Ballyroan’s local treatment plant will receive upgrades under the Small Towns and Villages Growth Programme.

“These upgrades will start in the near future, subject to approval and planning.

“They will help to improve long-running issues like raw sewerage discharges.

“Castletown Wastewater Treatment Plant is currently undergoing upgrades through Government investment.

“Upgrades to the facility there will help to protect the local environment.

“The upgrades in these local treatment plants will lead to improved wastewater treatment, enhance water quality and protect the local environment.

“These projects are funded by the Government through Uisce Éireann.”
