Government banning sale of vapes to those under 18 years old

A new Government Bill to ban the sale of vapes to those under the age of 18 passed through the Dáil on Wednesday, November 8.

This legislation contains wide-ranging measures to tackle smoking and vaping for people under 18 years of age.

These measures focus on preventing young people from beginning to smoke or vape to protect their health.

The Bill will also prohibit the sale of tobacco and nicotine inhaling products at events for children.

Self-service sale of these products will be prohibited, as will the advertising of vaping products around schools and on public transport.

Laois TD, Sean Fleming, Minister of State, welcomed the news, saying:

“We have to ensure that young people are protected from the harms of vapes and nicotine products.

“Using these vapes can often lead people to smoking cigarettes. So, it is important to protect young people from this path.

“Fianna Fáil introduced a ban on smoking in the workplace in the past and it is important now that we lead the way on banning the sale of harmful nicotine vapes to young people.”
