CONFIRMED: Laois GAA clubs receive cash infusion as JP McManus donates €1 million to every county in Ireland

JP McManus

Limerick billionaire JP McManus has donated €1 million to every county in Ireland for the promotion of GAA.

Earlier today, Extra.ie reported the money is a donation from the JP McManus Charitable Foundation.

And it is to be evenly divided between GAA, camogie and ladies Gaelic football clubs.

In Laois, there are around 60 clubs between the three codes of the game.

So that would mean that each could receive just over €16,500 – a huge investment for any club to receive.

This is the second time that McManus has made a donation – but this amount certainly trumps the previous.

He donated €100,000 to every county board in a similar gesture back in 2018, that came after Limerick’s first All-Ireland SHC success in 45 years.

Laois GAA secretary Niall Handy confirmed the news in an email to the clubs this afternoon.

He said: “I wish to confirm that today, Laois GAA have received a €1,000,000.00 donation from the JP McManus Charitable foundation to distribute among our GAA, Camogie and Ladies Football clubs within our County.

“We would like to acknowledge this incredible donation from JP & Noreen McManus and Family.

“This will be a massive boost to the local economy and a substantial resource to develop clubs within our County. A huge thank you to JP, Noreen and Family.

“We will distribute the funds in early January. I would also ask Camogie and Ladies Football to inform their respective clubs and ask them to make contact with me in relation to same.”
