In observance of Anti-Bullying Week, Portlaoise College orchestrated a series of impactful events to instil a culture of kindness among students.
Students were reminded of the importance of mutual support and positivity with a thoughtful reflection on the mantra, “Putting out someone else’s candle doesn’t make your candle shine any brighter.”
A workshop addressing cyberbullying heightened awareness of the challenges in today’s digital era.
Engaging discussions underscored the significance of responsible online behaviour and strategies to prevent digital bullying.
With the recent addition of the updated Wellbeing Wall, the school proudly raised the Cinealtas flag, symbolizing a collective dedication to kindness and collaborative efforts against bullying.
“The Cineáltas flag will serve as a visible national symbol of our shared commitment to be kind and work together to prevent and address Bullying,” said Norma Foley TD, Minister for Education.
It was with this in mind that on Thursday students were asked to reflect in their journals on the statement: “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”
Ms Cripps and Principal Noel Daly echoed this sentiment. Ms.
“In embracing kindness, we not only stand against bullying but also strengthen the bonds that make us a resilient school community,” Ms Cripps said.
Principal Daly added: “Our commitment to Cineáltas is not just a response to bullying; it’s a proactive approach to shaping a school environment where empathy and respect are central.
“Portlaoise College’s commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment reflects an ongoing mission to nurture respectful relationships among all students.”
