€12,000 awarded to Laois Tidy Towns groups under Biodiversity Fund

€12,000 has been awarded to Portlaoise and Abbeyleix Tidy Towns groups through the Biodiversity Fund.

Both Portlaoise Tidy Towns and Abbeyleix Tidy Towns will receive €6,000 each to implement recommendations from an existing Biodiversity Plan for their communities.

Portlaoise Tidy Towns will construct a Sand Martin nest wall in the town park.

While Abbeyleix Tidy Towns have been allocated the funding for native tree and pollinator friendly planting in the town.

Announcing the news, Laois TD Sean Fleming said the money will help the groups to restore nature in local

He said: “This is very welcome news for both towns.

“It is important that we support local communities to help restore nature in local areas.

“I want to thank both of these local groups and all of the Tidy Towns groups in Laois for their hard work.”
