Laois Credit Union set to be demolished with construction on new building ‘due to commence shortly’

A Laois Credit Union building is to be demolished, with construction on a new building “due to commence shortly.”

Mountmellick Credit Union have provided clarification on an ongoing situation at one of their branches.

Their branch in Clonaslee had been due to be renovated, but the project was interrupted due to unforeseen circumstances.

Speaking to LaoisToday, Brenda Forde, Operations Manager at Mountmellick Credit Union said:

“Mountmellick Credit Union have a branch office in Clonaslee which was to be renovated.

“Unfortunately, when the work had begun it was discovered that the foundation under the existing building was not up to standard.

“It was decided that we had no option unfortunately but to demolish the existing building and apply for planning permission for a new build.

“This build is due to commence shortly.”

The day-to-day running of Clonaslee Credit Union will be relocated temporarily to Clonaslee Community Centre.

“We are very grateful to Clonaslee Community Centre who have allowed us to serve our members there in the intervening period,” Ms Forde said.

“We look forward to opening our brand new office in the near future.”
