€1 Million announced for developments at Laois National Enterprise Park

€1 million investment has been announced for Junction 17 National Enterprise Park Development at Togher in Portlaoise.

The funding, which is part of the European Union’s EU Just Transition Fund, is designed to “support the creation of employment in Laois,” and “deliver significant benefits to the Midlands region.”

More specifically, the money will be invested in upskilling and training to help support Laois workers.

Part of the funding is also for preservation, repurposing, and refurbishment of local infrastructure, including support for renewable energy practices in the Enterprise Park.

Junction 17 National Enterprise Park is focused on heavy, light and ICT (Information and Communications Technology) industry, trade warehousing, distribution, logistics and other uses associated with the transport industry.

Some of the companies which are located in the Enterprise Park including Leprino Foods, Kirby Engineering, Aubren and Midlands Steel, with several new major projects under construction.

Laois Fianna Fáil TD Sean Fleming, Minister of State, welcomed the announcement, saying:

“This is very welcome news for the County, which will see a significant investment in Laois to support the creation of jobs, the upskilling of our workforce and the significant development of Junction 17 Enterprise Park at Togher, Portlaoise.”

Laois County Council has received almost €4 million in funding for the Midlands Regional Enterprise Plan Pathway for Just Transition.

“This funding will drive economic strength and sustainable development in the Midlands region for years to come,” Deputy Fleming said.
