Laois PPN and Portlaoise Tidy Towns to collaborate to host ‘Free Native Tree Give Away Day’

Free Native Tree Give Away Day is set to take place for the third year of it’s existence, in the Macra na Feirme Hall on the Timahoe Road, in Portlaoise.

The event is a collaboration between the Laois PPN and Portlaoise Tidy Towns, which will take place on Saturday, March 8, between 10-12 noon.

This event is strongly backed by community groups in an attempt to combat climate change and promote biodiversity.

You can attend the event and receive a free native tree, with assistance from Brian Gaynor of Trees on the Land.

Brian will be a guide to the trees at hand, taking you through the variety that is available.

For young people that wish to attend there will be ‘Arts and Crafts’ to enjoy. For attendees, there will also be a raffle for a ‘Free Gardening For Biodiversity Consultation’.

The winner of the raffle will receive this via T&C Gardens, who will include plants & accessories worth up to €250.

“Portlaoise Tidy Town and Laois PPN look forward to welcoming Community Groups from across Laois” said Vincent Booth Chairperson of Portlaoise Tidy Towns.

He too, highlighted the importance of tree planting because it ‘combats climate change, promotes biodiversity and
enhances our landscape’.

Dan Bergin, the Co-ordinator of the Laois PPN, speaks about how the event ‘coincides with National Tree Week’ and how it has continued to grow in popularity in the three years since it’s infancy.
