Cumann na mBunscol: Replay joy for Presentation Portarlington as they finally get the better of St Colman’s Stradbally

Roinn 6 Girls Championship Final Replay

St Colman’s NS from Stradbally and Presentation Portarlington battled it out for Cumann na mBunscol glory once again in Rathleague this afternoon.

15 days after they played out an epic O’Moore Park encounter, the girls from Portarlington prevailed by two points.

Originally, the sides were level after full time and after two phases of extra time in what was a mammoth affair.

Sometimes with replays, the second running doesn’t live up to the initial event but this certainly wasn’t the case here.

Ailbhe Ryan opened the scoring for St Colman’s with a point from a free but then Portarlington took over.

Nikita McDonagh, Mia-Rose Judge and Hannah Grehan scored brilliant points before Robyn Lanigan struck for a well taken goal.

But back came St Colman’s as Nadia Landis kicked a point and then followed that with a goal in the dying stages to leave the score at 1-3 to 1-2 at the break to Portarlington.

The second half remained close with both teams hitting a number of wides before Portarlington tagged on three points.

Mia-Rose Judge landed two of those while the lively Aoife Brennan kicked the other.

A few close encounters around the goals resulted in Ailbhe Ryan finally hitting the net for St Colman’s to cut the gap to two points.

But despite all their efforts, Portarlington’s defence stood strong and they held on to be crowned champions.

For St Colman’s, Amy Leonard was outstanding in the backs, Emma McDonald and Holly Donnelly worked tirelessly throughout.

Nadia Landos won some great ball and battled hard while Millie Ann Buggie and Ailbhe Ryan were constant thorns in the Portarlington defence.

After the game, Holly Donnelly was presented with the Fair Play Award following her excellent displays all year.

On the Portarlington side, the Fair Play Award went to Mia-Rose Judge who kicked three points in the final – after scoring eight in the drawn game.

Paige Pender was Presentation Portarlington’s captain on the day and she was awarded the trophy at the end to bring Cumann na mBunscol for 2025 to a close.
