Jeremiah Grant to put on four quality live shows throughout month of August – starting with Electric Dreams this Thursday

The hospitality and live entertainment industry have been badly hit over the past couple of years – and they’ve been working hard to get back to pre-Covid levels.

Among the Government initiatives has been a Night Time Economy Support Scheme (NTESS) to trial new events.

And among the venues to avail of the scheme has been Jeremiah Grant Bar and Eatery in the heart of Portlaoise, who are putting on four high-quality free live gigs in the month of August on Thursday evenings.

Electric Dreams – who “celebrate the glorious smash hits of the 80s in a thumping show of timeless singalong pop classics” – are first up this Thursday, August 5, at 9pm.

The popular group are known for their shows at some of the country’s biggest festivals – Electric Picnic, Big Grill and Beatyard – and with no cover charge it’s a rare opportunity to see performers of this quality free of charge.

Among their covers are songs from chart-toppers A-ha, Erasure, Madonna, Depeche Mode, Lionel Richie, Duran Duran, Whitney Houston, Pet Shop Boys and Human League.

Further live events will be announced for Thursday, August 12, August 19 and August 26.

“It is hoped that this scheme will assist this sector in rebuilding an active, thriving, and sustainable Evening and Night-Time Economy,” says the Department of Tourism, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media in relation to the NTESS.

“It will allow venue owners test different offerings, see what works for them, their locality and customer base and to potentially plan for a more sustained, long-term offering, adding to the vibrancy of town and city centres right throughout the week and not just at weekends.

“It will also provide opportunities for artists, including new and emerging artists at local level and encourage the use of these premises for a variety of artists throughout the year.”
