Garda

Gardaí are questioning a man in Laois following an attempted armed robbery.

At around 11.30am yesterday, a worker at a shop on the Link Road in Portarlington was threatened by a raider with a knife who demanded cash.

According to Midlands 103, the store assistant fled and the perpetrator left empty-handed.

A man was arrested this morning and is being held at Portlaoise Garda Station.

This is the second knife-related crime in the town in the past week.

Injuries

In an unrelated incident, a man in his 30s was brought to Tullamore Hospital with non-life threatening injuries last week after being injured at an apartment on French Church Street in Portarlington on Friday morning.

A short time later, four men ranging in ages from their 20s to their 40s were detained and brought to Portlaoise Garda Station for questioning.

Four men arrested following the stabbing in Portarlington were later released without charge.
