The annual Barrowhouse 5k in aid of Shanganamore N.S will take place on Wednesday April 25.

Now in its fourth successive year the race has grown from strength to strength with over 250 finishers last year.

The school hopes to see many of these runners and walkers returning this year to improve their times.

During the week the teachers hope the students will get involved in various activities from Zumba to tennis.

They hope through educating the children and providing such activities they will be able to help to tackle the rising issue of childhood obesity.

The committee hope the whole community will get involved and support this great cause.

Registration for the race takes place from 6pm at the GAA pitch in Barrowhouse. With the race taking place at 7pm starting from the local football field.

Event organiser Stephen Lawlor said: “The course will be the same as previous years which allows you see how much progress you’ve been making over the years.

“Spot prizes will be a plenty again with prizes also for the first male and female to finish.

“The focus once again is getting the community active and trying to encourage as many students, teachers, families and friends to get involved.

“The Active Schools message remains the same #GetupGetoutGetActive.”

Entry for adults is €10, children are €5 while a family is €20.
