Fr Paddy: October … a time to Let Go

This week Portlaoise bid farewell to a wonderful friend of this Town, Hesh Mcormack.
One of his many gifts was his love of poetry. The following poem written by Hesh reflected on his mortality.
As we journey through October we encounter nature dying, leaves falling, land lying fallow. A time of the year when nature reflects our human mortality. His poem Death The Final Victory is also a celebration of faith.
As St. Paul tells us “Our true home is in heaven”
DEATH THE FINAL VICTORY

Lay me down in my resting place,

that place of love and grace.

Where I have often strayed,

to pray for friends therein laid.

Oh my dear beloved friends,

it has been a long hard race,

Now its time to take my place,

In victory I come to join you.

Lay me down in my resting place,

where I have so longed to be,

With you my beloved friends,

for all eternity.

I did my best for all to see,

I left it behind as a lagacy

But now I can do no more you see,

In victory I come to join you.

Lay me down in my resting place,

in my native land forever,

I hope that I will rest in peace,

after my great endeavour,

I loved my friends especially the poor,

I could not do very much more,

They are waiting for me at Heavens door,

In victory I come to join you.

Lay me down in my resting place,

with God’s help and through His grace.

My soul will go to a better place,

To a beautiful place called Heaven.

I hope to see my beloved poor friends,

in the splendour of all that is Holy,

If I am so deserving,

then In victory I come to join you.

I recently read this lovely spiritual and simple poem, celebrating how God loves us all.
THE POWER OF U
Before U were thought of or time had begun,
God had stuck U in the name of His Son.

And each time U pray, you’ll see it’s true,
You can’t spell out JesUs and not include U.

You’re a pretty big part of His wonderful name,
For U, he was born; that’s why He came.

And His great love for U is the reason that he died,
It even takes U to spell crUcified.

Isn’t it thrilling and splendidly grand,
He rose from the dead with U in His plan.

The stones split away, the gold trUmpet blew,
and this word ressUrection is spelled with a U.

When Jesus left the earth at His upward ascension,
He felt there was one thing He just had to mention.

“Go into the world and tell them it’s true,
That I love them all-Just like I love U.

So many great people are spelled with a U,
Don’t they have the right to know JesUs too?

It all depends now on what U will do,
He’d like them to know, but it all starts with U.

Will U pass it on?
JesUs Loves U!!!
