Portarlington Area Plan public meeting on Wednesday

Have your say on the future direction of Portarlington

Members of the public are being urged to come to a public meeting on the Local Area Plan for Portarlington 2018 – 2014.

The open morning will be held for members of the public in Portarlington Library on Wednesday, October 18 from 10 am to 2 pm.

“It is very important that the views of local people are heard and that your submissions are included in the Plan, where relevant,” said Cllr Aidan Mullins.

“I think this is a very important meeting. It is a joint local area plan as Portarlington straddles two local authorities. It is very important that people have their say and that the plan reflects this,” Cllr Mullins said.

“It is much better to have your say than sit back and complain,” Cllr Mullins said.

He said council officials will be hand to give people advice on the process of making a submission.

“The members of the public may have better ideas than the officials,” Cllr Mullins said, particularly due to their local knowledge.

Insights

He said they may have insights on various issues such as public realm space, school places, public parking, public lighting, green spaces etc.

“Council officials and probably someone from the planning department will be there to give guidelines on how to make a submission,” Cllr Mullins said.

He said it is important that local people have a say, rather than national bodies which have large resources.

“The process can be daunting but people don’t realise how easy it is to make submissions,” he said.
