The ploughing season is well and truly underway and the Portlaoise and District Association held their match in Rathleague on Saturday last.

It was held on the land of the Maher and Conroy families. This year the Laois Ploughing Association are celebrating their 50th anniversary and they have a number of events planned to mark the occasion.

This coming Saturday sees the Ballylinan match takes place and the following Saturday the South Laois is on in Ballacolla with the Laois event in Ballacolla the following day, Sunday, February 19.

“Thanks to everyone who made today such a success from all at Portlaoise Ploughing,” said a post on the group’s Facebook page.

“Thanks to the judges, sponsors, competitors, stewards, site owners, the ladies for tea on the field and the Gandon Inn for the meal afterwards. Thanks to the NPA and Anna May (McHugh) for her kind words at the prize giving. And thanks to anyone we left out!”
