Portlaoise look to reach Towns Cup quarter-final

The Portlaoise Rugby Club are hosting a Family Day next weekend

Portlaoise return to Towns Cup action this afternoon when they host Skerries in the second round of the competition in Togher at 3pm.

Following on from their 23-15 win over Portarlington (you can watch the video highlights of that match here), Portlaoise should have a good chance of reaching the last eight against a Skerries second team that play in Division 4 of the Metro League.  Skerries first team are in Division 2B of the All Ireland league.

Portlaoise haven’t played since that win over Port and will be without talented scrum half Eugene Hearns who has since emigrated to Canada. Niall McCormack will replace him in the number nine jersey while Andrew Colliers comes into the centre with Gavin Thompson moving to the wing and John Doyle losing out.

There are eight second round games taking place today with the pick of the clashes the meeting between Dundalk and Enniscorthy in Dundalk.

The full list of second round games is:
Tullow v Navan
Portlaoise v Skerries
Naas v Ashbourne
Clondalkin v Longford
Cill Dara v Wicklow
Dundalk v Enniscorthy
North Kildare v Athy
Gorey v Arklow
