Byrne points the way as Abbeyleix claim top hurling honours

The Abbeyleix team that won the Roinn 1 hurling title with an impressive display against Cullohill

Colin Byrne helped himself to 11 points as Abbeyleix put in a very strong performance to claim the top prize in Laois Cumann na mBunscol – the Roinn 1 hurling title.

Byrne was impressive from frees and from play as Abbeyleix look as if they are continuing to produce top quality underage hurlers.

Liam Kavanagh got Abbeyleix off to a dream start with a goal in the opening minutes from and they went on to lead 1-6 to 0-3 at half time.

With the wind at their backs in the second half Abbeyleix stretched their lead in the second half. Kyle Mullen got their second goal while Ross Coffey added a point.

Liam Kirby finished with three points for Cullohill with Justin Deegan getting their other one.
