Iceland on the cards for Mountmellick family after GAA Lotto win

GAA club lottos are held up and down the country and invariably you’ll see the update – ‘No Winner this week’.

Well that wasn’t the case in Mountmellick in recent days when their jackpot reached €10,000 – and was won by local man Eddie O’Sullivan. It ended a long spell of 18 months since the previous €10,000 jackpot had been won.

Eddie’s numbers of 3, 11, 17 and 21 came up, meaning he scooped the €10k prize. Eddie and his wife Isabella are planning to spend the prize money on a trip to Iceland to visit family. They were presented with the cheque at the club grounds in Acragar by club officials Aidan Challoner (chairman), Tom Minihan (secretary) and Sue Payne (treasurer).

Winning Ticket

The winning ticket was bought in Tom and Vrons pub in Mountmellick and was sold by Michael Lenihan.

There was also the usual smaller prizes – with Tony Kirwan winning €50 and Tom O’Connell, Bernie Halley, Martin Lawlor and Bill Thompson all winning €20 each.

Next week’s lotto jackpot returns to €1000.

Indeed the lotto win contributed to a busy week for the Mountmellick club. They opened their Junior ‘B’ hurling championship campaign with a win on Tuesday evening against Clough-Ballacolla, got the better of St Fintan’s in the Junior ‘B’ football on Thursday and then claimed the ACFL Division 2 title on Sunday in O’Moore Park. As well as that they had an amount of activity at underage level – with their U-10s facing Park-Ratheniska.
