Planning permission granted for new St Francis school building

Planning permission has been granted for the new St Francis School transfer and build on the site of the old St. Paul’s Primary School, Borris Road, Portlaoise.

Deputy Sean Fleming has complimented all involved in the move. He said, “It is great to see that Laois County Council granted planning permission for this new school building in recent days.”

“The Parish, the Board of Management and all involved in the school have worked for a very long period of time to improve the facilities for the students in this special school.  This will now be a reality sooner rather than later,” he added.

Build expected to begin in early 2018

When speaking to the Minister for Education Richard Bruton, Minister Fleming said he was told the construction is expected to begin in early 2018.

“The School Authorities have stated that the design of this new school will allow it to be fast tracked through construction so that the new school will be completed as soon as possible,” he added.
