Works are due to commence on the undergrounding of the overhead electricity cables in The Square in Portarlington this morning (Tuesday).

The works have been welcomed by Cllr Aidan Mullins.

“This is just a start as I will be pushing to have all cables along Main Street undergrounded to improve the streetscape,” he said.

“The local Tidy Towns Committee are also working closely with me on this,” he said.

Traffic disruption should be kept to a minimum by the contractors, Cllr Mullins said.

The undergrounding of such cables greatly improves the appearance of a town.

It is also something which is regularly recommended in Tidy Towns reports.
