100 acre local farm sells at auction this afternoon

100 acres at Meelick near Portlaoise which sold this afternoon

A 100 acre farm located at Meelick on the Abbeyleix Road outside Portlaoise sold at auction for €1.35 million this afternoon.

The buyer is believed to be a local farming family with connections to the area.

Located at Meelick, on the M7 interchange, the property attracted considerable interest when it was put under the hammer by auctioneer Paddy Jordan this afternoon.

Located just 1km from the M7 interchange, the 100 acres in two lots of 80.78ac and 19.22ac on either side of the motorway, offers extensive road frontage.

A mixture of tillage and grazing lands, it includes two farmyards.

Mr Jordan said it was guiding at €10,000 per acre.

Initially bids reached €150,000 for the smaller lot and €800,000 for the 80 acre one.

When a bid of €1.2 million was reached for the entire, Mr Jordan declared it was going on the market.

Having climbed to €1.3 million, a number of agents left the room to take instructions before the auction reached its conclusion.

Bids rose to €1.31 million before the highest bid of €1.35 million secured the property.

On conclusion of that auction, Woodville, a period residence with gate lodge adjoining that property was offered for sale.

This property came with approximately 18 acres and a yard.

Guiding at €625,000, bids opened at €500,000 and crept up in increments of €10,000 to reach €610,000.

Having reached €620,000, a further bid of €625,000 was enough to secure the property.
