Mountmellick Mill ideal for new housing – Cllr Bracken

The old mill in Mountmellick would be ideal to develop for housing, according to Cllr Paddy Bracken,

He made the suggestion at the recent Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick Municipal District meeting.

He said the new stone wall and railings around the building are now complete, which will greatly improve the appearance of the approach road at Irishtown.

“I am very happy with the way the job was done,” he said.

“I would like to compliment all those involved. It is a great job,” he said.

A number of sites have been identified for social housing development in Mountmellick, Cllr Bracken said.

Ideal

“The Mill site would be ideal. It has a lot of stone and brick on site which could be incorporated in a development.

“I think we should be proactive on social and affordable housing. This would be ideal for a mixed-use development.

“It has a lovely entrance and a lovely wall around it. It has huge potential if we delivered on it,” he said.
