A student from Emo in Co Laois has been presented with an Entrance Scholarship award in UCD.

Finbarr Crowley received the award in recognition of the excellent results that he achieved in their Leaving Certificate this year.

The former Cistercian College Roscrea pupil was also joined by classmate Padraig Blake from Thurles in achieving the award.

Padraig is studying Agricultural Science while Finbarr is studying Engineering in UCD.

It caps a whirlwind year for Crowley who is also an accomplished Gaelic footballer.

Crowley was a key member of the 2016 Laois minor football team which reached the Leinster final.

And then this year, he was on the Emo team which won the Intermediate football championship.

He put in a number of find displays at midfield and wing forward as Paul Lawlor’s men made an immediate return to the senior grade.
