A Laois school bus has reportedly skidded off the road this morning in icy conditions.

The Leinster Express are reporting that the bus was on the way to Coláiste Íosagáin in Portarlinton when it skidded off the road.

They are reporting that it slipped on ice on the Bog Road, down into the soft margin on the side of the road, where it got stuck.

It is understood that the students then had to get out of the bus and walk the rest of the way to the school.

The incident is believed to have taken place around 8.45am.

Principal Seamus Bennett attended the scene and he said he was just happy that nobody was hurt.

He said: “I am glad no-one was hurt. My concern was that the students were fine and they were.

“This is a back road, it was flooded a lot recently, it is in bad old shape. I gather it was a bit icy.”
