Local igloo proves a big hit in the snow

The impressive igloo in Rathdowney

The residents of Moorville Estate in Rathdowney brought Christmas decorations to a whole new level with an impressive igloo built there.

The igloo was built by the people living in the estate, with the main construction undertaken by Paul Bowe and David Moore.

The children of the estate had choir practice for a few weeks running up to December 8 when the Christmas lights were switched on and the igloo was unveiled

On the night the residents enjoyed some mulled wine, hot chocolate and carol singing on the green as their creation was officially unveiled.

As if that wasn’t enough,  they even had a snow machine to add to the atmosphere on the night.

The estate is a small one, of just 36 houses.

However, when all the children got on board for the project, they quickly got more than enough 2 and 3 litre plastic milk containers.

Cheer

One resident said they were delighted to be able to share their Christmas cheer.

“People are driving up to the estate and slowing down to have a look at the igloo,” the resident said.

“It looks even better with the snow. We thought it might collapse in, but thankfully it didn’t,” they added.
