Three men caught trying to break into house in Portarlington

Gardaí caught and arrested three men who were attempting to commit a burglary in Portarlington yesterday.

The trio were detained at 6pm after they were snatched at the Hugeunot House Apartments.

The three, who are all from Portarlington, are aged 18, 23 and 29.

They have been charged to Portlaoise District Court where they are due to appear on January 25.

As they were detained in the act, Gardaí were able to recover anything they were trying to steal.

In a separate incident, a Portlaoise resident woke up to an unpleasant surprise on Wednesday morning when he discovered his car broken into, windows smashed, laptop stolen and wheels taken – with the brazen thieves using his own car jack to help make the robbery.

Gardaí in Portlaoise are appealing for information following the robbery that took place on Wednesday night in Kilminchy. The incident took place at about 4am it is believed.
