Mixed results for Laois sides in CCFL while a cup shock for Laois side in Carlow

There was a range of games across the various local soccer leagues today in league and cup competitions with mixed results for the Laois teams.

Portlaoise side Towerhill Rovers bowed out of the CCFL Paddy Cotter Cup after losing 1-0 at home to Clara Town while Clonaslee were beaten in the senior league by Mullingar. Rosenallis drew 2-2 with Tullamore in the same division.

In the local derby between O’Moore FC and Stradbally Town in Division 2, O’Moore recorded a vital 3-2 win thanks to two goals from Joe Bergin and one from Eoin Fitzpatrick.

Derek O’Gorman got both of Stradbally’s goals.

In the Carlow soccer league, Division 3 side Wolfhill continued their brilliant season thanks to a 4-3 win away to Division 1 neighbours Crettyard Utd ‘B’  in the Divisions 1/2/3 Cup.

Wolfhill, who have already won the league, have now stretched their unbeaten run to 15 games. Their goals today came from Billy Campion, Colin Campion, Gary Rowan and Bernard Wheatley.

It was a better day for the Crettyard ‘A’ team as they kept in touch at the top of the Premier Division thanks to a massive 8-0 win over Celtic Stars.

Reigning champions Crettyard are seven points behind leaders Hanover Harps but have three games in hand.

In the Kilkenny League, Rathdowney side Clover Utd had a good 3-0 win over Fort Rangers in the KCLR MacCalmount Cup.
