Moment in Time: Wonderful scenes as Mountrath CS is officially opened in 2009

This week we dug up some brilliant photos from Alf Harvey’s archives from the official opening of Mountrath CS in 2009.

Mountrath CS came into being in following the amalgamation of Ballyfin College, the Brigidine in Mountrath and Mountrath VS in 2007.

While the move brought the curtain down on those fine institutions, it marked a new departure for education in the town.

Deputy Sean Fleming was on hand to cut the ribbon for the historic occasion and Alf’s photos capture the moment wonderfully.

Bishop Jim Moriarty was also in attendance as was Fr Pat Hennessy and Archdeacon John Murray.

From the choir performing to photos of the traditional musicians in full flow it was an event fitting of the occasion.

Caterer Phil Duggan and his team were on hand to provide the refreshments and teachers

All students in these photos have now moved on and gone from Mountrath, but we know many will love looking back on these.
