Traffic delays on Portlaoise-Carlow road following three-car collision

Gardaí are on the scene following the incident

There are long tailbacks into the village of Ballickmoyler on both sides of the road, following a three-car collision this afternoon.

The accident occurred on the Carlow side of Ballickmoyler at about 3pm and Gardai are on the way to the scene.

There’s not believed to be any serious injuries but traffic is moving very slowly in both directions.

The road is busier than usual this afternoon with Laois football supporters making thair way home from Netwatch Cullen Park following’s Laois’s 1-6 to 0-8 win over Carlow.

Laois’s win means both counties are promoted and will meet again next weekend in the Allianz Football League Division 4 final in Croke Park.

Today’s collision on the N80 at Ballickmoyler comes only a couple of weeks after a fatal accident on the same road.

Local woman Joanna Doyle was killed instantly when the car she was travelling in collided with a lorry on Friday, February 23. The 48-year-old was a mother of four.
