There will be a serious rolling back of the years in Athy this summer – when legendary singer-songwriter Christy Moore plays an intimate gig in the famous Dreamland Ballroom.
Christy only recently played two sold-out concerts in the Midlands Park Hotel – but this will be a gig with a difference in a venue that holds a special place for many people.
Dreamland in Athy was the social scene for many people of a certain generation – and was, arguably, this region’s answer to Copper Face Jacks back in the day.
As the Leinster Leader noted, the venue has hosted huge names in the music business like Johnny Cash, Joe Dolan and a litany of the big Irish showbands of their generation.
Earlier this year we included the venue in our list detailing the great places to find love back in the day.
As ever, Christy will be joined on stage on the night by guitar player Declan Sinnott , also banjo and fiddle player Cathal Hayden, and percussionist Jimmy Higgins.
Tickets have already gone on sale for the historic event from The Gem, Athy and on Ticketmaster.
