All the Laois Rose hopefuls with Steve Cronly, commercial manager with the Rose of Tralee

As the May Bank Holiday weekend approaches, there are plenty of things going on.

And with the good weather expected, it’s setting up to be a jam packed weekend of events.

The Laois hurlers will be playing in O’Moore Park on Saturday afternoon against Westmeath, while the ever-so-popular Laois Rose Selection night and the annual Ned Buggy 4K memorial run are on Sunday.

All in all, you will do very well to sample even a few of these exciting things.

Friday, May 4

Portlaoise Golf Classic

Portlaoise GAA Golf Classic takes place this Friday at the Heath Golf Club.

Saturday, May 5

The Rock Inn Vintage Run and Rally

The May Bank Holiday weekend heralds the start of the summer season and the festival to open this season is the Rock Inn Vintage Rally, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday, May 5 and 6.

Joe McDonagh Cup Round 1

Laois Hurlers will face Westmeath at 3pm in O’Moore Park for the Joe McDonagh Cup Round 1.

Sean Keane Concert 

Sean Keane will be performing at the Donaghmore Workhouse in Rathdowney. The traditional Irish folk singer will be performing from 8pm. Tickets are still available.

Sunday, May 6

Point to Point – Stradbally Hall 

There’s nothing quite like a day at the races and there’s no place like Stradbally Hall. The Point to Point takes place this Sunday afternoon. The first race begins at 2.30pm.

Ned Buggy Memorial Run 

The Annual Ned Buggy run takes place this Sunday in St Abbans AC clubs grounds at 1pm. All funds raised will be in aid of Pieta House. Registration for the 4K run from 12.30pm. The event has been known as the 4K “Run, Walk or Crawl” with people of all abilities urged to turn up and pay tribute to Ned, as well as raising money for a great charity.

Midland UTD Powerchair Football Club 

Camross GAA are hosting an open training session from 11am-2pm in the community hall.

Laois Rose Selection Night

The annual Laois Rose selection night takes place at 7.30pm in the Midlands Park Hotel. 14 contestants will take to the stage in the hopes to be crowned the 2018 Laois Rose. Galway man Ollie Turner will be presenting the night.
