Tonight saw brothers and neighbours go into battle on opposing sides in ACFL Division 1B action.

The clash of Ballyroan-Abbey and Rosenallis saw two brothers, Liam and Johnny Irwin, go head-to-head on the sideline as they were each managing one of the teams.

And it was Liam Irwin who got the better of his brother as Ballyroan-Abbey won by three points in the end.

It is a result which leaves them in third place overall, albeit just on points difference from Emo in second and one point behind Arles-Kilcruise who now top the division.

This game was close though and Rosenallis, full of confidence after getting their first win against Crettyard last week, were level as we entered the final quarter of the game.

Scott Conroy and MJ Tierney were to the fore for Ballyroan-Abbey as they kicked ten points in the first half.

Ronan Murray and Donal Lalor replied for Rosenallis and they ended the half with two goals.

The first came from Joey Shelly after a great pass from Adam McDermott while the second came deep in injury time from Lalor to leave them trailing 2-2 to 0-10 at the break.

Conroy and Tierney kept scoring for Ballyroan on the resumption of play but Rosenallis refused to go away.

Jack Conroy, Ronan Murray and three in a row from Brian Fitzpatrick had them level after 45 minutes.

But Ballyroan-Abbey had that little bit extra and they pulled away in the closing stages to win by 0-17 to 2-8 in the end.

BALLYROAN-ABBEY: Andrew Bonham; Cian Moffitt, Gavin Tynan, Ruairi Dunne; James Whelan, Aaron Carroll, Aaron McEvoy; Shaun Murphy, Michael Brennan; Charlie Whelan, Liam Delaney, Padraig McMahon; MJ Tierney, Scott Conroy, Mark McDonald

Elsewhere, Arles-Kilcruise are gone top of the table after they defeated their near neighbours Arles-Killeen in Mageny.

Lar Wall’s charges sit top of the table thanks to a 2-13 to 0-8 win over Killeen.

They led by 0-7 to 0-4 at half time and two second half goals sealed the deal.

PJ Lawlor, who finished with 1-4 from wing forward, got the first while Kevin Meaney got the second midway through the second period.
