New carpark to be added to hugely popular Laois tourist attraction

Funding has been secured for the building of an additional carpark this year at Glenbarrow, Rosenallis.

The funding was announced at the latest Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick municipal district meeting.

Senior engineer Paul McLoughlin said, “Consultation with Coillte is ongoing with a view to delivering this project in the later stages of 2018.”

Mr McLoughlin also said that signage was being installed warning cars to not block access onto the public road at the site.

Problem for residents

Cllr Paddy Bracken said he ‘appreciated the positive response’ from the council.

Cllr Seamus McDonald also welcomed the signs not to block public access to roads, as during peak season, “homeowners in the area have trouble getting into their own homes”.

Mr McLoughlin said that visitors should use ‘civic repsonsibilty’ and not block the public road when parking their cars at Glenbarrow.
