The Harps are crowned U14 camogie champions

The Harps 4-9 O’Moores 2-2
U14 camogie championship ‘A’ final

This ‘A’ championship final saw Laois’s two All-Ireland winning Feile teams battle it out to be crowned the top U-14 side in Laois.

This match showed the strength of underage camogie in Laois, with some spectacular performances put in by both sides.

The ever-powerful Lucy O’Connor got the ball rolling with her first point after the fifth minute. O’Connor was strategically marked by one of O’Moore’s main players, Ellen Conroy and these two provided the crowds with some spectacular displays worthy of girls five years older than themselves.

Amy McKane proved to be a force to be reckoned with in the O’Moores attack and scored their first point from a 30 yard free. McKane popped up again as Grace McEvoy delivered an excellent box across the box, which McKane picked up and sent into the back of the net.

O’Moores’s second goal would come just a minute later from a Deirbhile C Fennell free which dropped into the net. Harps co-captain Una Brophy replied with a wonderful shot from the left-wing to get her side going again. McKane added her second point but Emma Delaney, Amy Lacey and Blaithnaid Deegan put ferocious pressure on the O’Moores full-back line as they refused to let any ball come out easy.

This amounted to Lisa Kirby finding the net after a loose ball broke out and Brophy adding a free to narrow the O’Moores lead by two points before the half-time.

The Harps come out a different animal

The Harps showed just how they won their division two Feile in the second half of this game.

Brophy got the second-half scoring off to a start by converting two frees within a minute of each other. Goalscorer Kirby added another goal to her tally and the ever-dangerous Lucy O’Connor stepped up for her side to deliver her first goal of the night.

Blaithnaid Deegan and Brophy added two further points for Joe Deegan’s side before O’Connor ran through the centre to deliver a goal and a point at the 52 minute mark.

Lucy Conroy, Orla Whelan and Ciara Conroy worked extremely hard for Joe Conroy’s side as Emma Delaney, Amy Lacey and Aislinn Townsend brought their A-game for The Harps.

Emma Delaney sent the ball into O’Connor to bring their total to 4-9 to win out this battle of the Feile champions in Mountrath today.
