Halloween fun continues this weekend with lots of events for children and fun nights out for adults.

One of the best fundraising ideas we have seen takes place on Friday night for PATH. The quirky Fr Ted Comedy Night and Lovely Girls Night will be held in Manhattan Mixer and it looks like such good craic.  

There is lots of social dancing around the county which is a great way to get out and meet people.

There’s a casino night in Abbeyleix, a Thriller Dance Class in Portlaoise, Wizardry and magic and so much more.  It’s another jam packed weekend.

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 1

True Self, True Art

This is a super workshop for children with Art Therapist Aisling Brennan.  It forms part of the Mid-Term Fun – Creative Space at Dunamaise Arts Centre.  

This affirmation workshop is for children aged 7 to 12 years. The children will open up their creativity and connect with themselves to find a part they are proud of.

They will then make a piece of art based on this attribute.  The workshop costs €15 and begins at 2pm. For more see here

Heritage House School of Wizardry and Magic

This is a must for all Harry Potter fans to indulge in all things wizardry.  

On the day you will get to choose your magic wand, create potions and slime, and try the every flavour jelly bean challenge. Booking is essential and is suitable for children aged 8+.

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 2

School for Young Wizards & Magicians

An event for younger wizards from 3-7 years. On the day you will get to choose your magic wand, create potions and slime.

Thriller! Halloween Dance Class

Join Sonya Cuddy for a thrilling dance class with a Halloween theme!! Learn the moves to Thriller and more.  

This is a great workshop to keep kids entertained over the mid term. Running in the Dunamaise Arts Centre at 10.30am and costs €10 per child. To book see www.dunamaise.ie or call 057 8663355.

Le Galaxie – Live Music

Le Galaxie play Kavanaghs Bar and Venue this Friday night and it promises to be a spectacular night. A feast of electro music awaits.  Doors open 9.30 and tickets are €18.50. For more see here

Samhain Festival 2018

Join the Slieve Bloom Association for their annual Samhain festival in Sheeran’s Pub Coolrain.  This will be a truly immersive experience of storytelling, music, poetry and dancing.

A great night to be had by all. There is no cover charge and the event kicks off at 9.30pm til late.

Fr Ted Comedy Night & Lovely Girls Night

This is one of the best fundraiser ideas in a long time.  As part of Manhattan Mixer’s Hallowe’en Festival they are hosting a Fr. Ted Comedy Night & Lovely Girls competition in aid of PATH Portlaoise action to homelessness.  

Joe Rooney (Father Damo) and Patrick McDonnell (Eoin McLove) are renowned stand-up comedians with a unique take on Irish society.

Expect improvised audience interaction and musical comedy.  A great night of fun and craic guaranteed. Tickets are €15. For more information see Manhattan Mixer’s Facebook page.

Social Dance

A great night planned in Garryhinch Golf Club, Portarlington with music from John & Ava Tobin and singer Olivia Douglas.  

All proceeds will go to fund a new defibrillator and to the Irish Heart Foundation. Tickets are €10 and the event begins at 9pm

Social Dancing with John Molloy

More social dancing this weekend in Stradbally. Napper Tandys hosts John Molloy and dancing will run from 9.30pm -12.30am.  All welcome and there is no cover charge.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 3

Releasing Restorative Yoga Morning

Need to take some time to unwind and relax? Well a morning of releasing restorative yoga could be just what you need.

Meditation, Mantra and Yin Yoga are all part of the morning finished with a healthy vegan lunch hosted by Simon Rogers of Blackhill Woods Retreat in Abbeyleix.

The Cottage Market Mountrath

This Saturday sees the return of the monthly Cottage Market in Mountrath.  This market is always worth popping into with all market goods either homemade, home grown and/or home crafted.  Running in the Macra Hall from 10am to 2pm so come along and meet the artisan producers.

Marvellous Mascot – Live Tribute Show

A great family fun afternoon for little kids.  Join the No.1 children’s entertainment show in Ireland. It’s a fully interactive show for kids but adults can sing and dance along too!  Tickets are €10 each (family of 5 €40) and can be purchased on the door in the Killeshin Hotel and show begins at 3pm. Doors open from 2.30.

Rubber Dingy – Live Music

Rubber Dingy are playing in the Anvil Inn, Portarlington Saturday night and it promises to be a great night.  So come along and enjoy the electric two piece act that’s bound to get you up dancing!. Gig begins at 10.30 and there is no cover charge.

Murphy’s Nostalgia Night

Come and rock out to music from the past in The Castle Arms Durrow.  Enjoy a musical trip down memory lane. You can be guaranteed that all the favourites will be played and it’s all for some good causes,  Ballyragget Community Hall and Brookville AFC. Tickets are €15 and are available in the hotel.

Music Generation Laois Tionól

An evening of pipe and harp music presented by Music Generation Laois. Featuring young musicians from across Ireland and professional Irish and international pipers and harpists who are descending on Laois for this very special Tionól (gathering) of musicians, now in its third year.  Show begins at 7pm and costs €5. Casino Night

Enjoy a fun Casino evening in aid of the Abbeyleix Parochial Restoration Fund.  Followed by a disco from 11.30 so party til late. Casino night begins at 8pm and tickets cost €25 in the Abbeyleix  Manor Hotel.

Sam Bird Love Island

Sam Bird from Love Island will be meeting, greeting and playing a DJ set in Lennons, Durrow.  Tickets cost €10 and kicks off 8:30pm.

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 4

Shawn Cuddy & John Hogan

Shawn Cuddy and his band with special guest John Hogan makes a welcome return to Dunamaise Arts Centre where he always has a full house and entertains his fans with his own style of singing and plenty of  crack and fun. Tickets cost €20 and event begins at 8pm.

Slieve Bloom Guided Walk

The Slieve Bloom Walking Club’s next guided walk is at Silver River/ Hazel Grove.  This walk is a 8km Grade B walk and takes 3 hours so suitable for good level of fitness.

Meeting point is Cadamstown Car Park at 11am.  €5 per walk or €20 annual membership.
