FAI Women’s Cup Final

Three Laois women are part of the superb Wexford Youths side that competed a magnificent feat  this weekend – securing a league and a cup double

Kylie Murphy, Orla Casey and Ciamh Gray (formerly Dollard) are all involved in the Wexford Youths that defeated ace Peamount United FC in the FAI Cup Final today, Sunday November 4.

A first-half goal from Wexford camogie legend Katrina Parrock set up the Youths side for this historic victory in the Aviva Stadium.

Kylie Murphy led by example for her Wexford side, halting Peamount’s domiance in the first-half with a shot of her own after 30 minutes which just narrowly missed the net.

Abbeyleix youngster Orla Casey was introduced to the game after the 70 minute mark.

Wexford Youths topped the Women’s National League table this year – coming in on 54 points with second place Shelbourne United gathering 52 points.

Graiguecullen native and captain of Wexford Youths side Murphy has been amassing the honours this week – as she was also nominated for senior player of the year in the Women’s National League.

Murphy has been captain for the side for seven years – and she is joined by young Abbeyleix star Orla Casey and goalkeeper Ciamh Gray.

Big match days are not uncommon for this dynamite trio – they took on some of the juggernauts of European women’s soccer earlier this year in the Champions League.

These included Dutch champions Ajax, Icelandic champions Thor KA and northern Ireland champions Linfield Ladies.

Congrautlations to Kylie, Orla, Ciamh and all the Wexford Youths side!
