The young man who was killed in a tragic road accident on Sunday morning near Borris-in-Ossory has been named as 31-year-old John Brennan.
Mr Brennan was killed following a single car collision near his family home in Ballyquaid, Ballybrophy. He was the sole occupant.
John is survived by his parents Sean and Martina, sisters Caroline, Marie, Daniel, Katie, Cillian and Eoin.
He is also mourned by uncles, aunts, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.
A prominent member of the powerlifting community, a tribute was paid to him on the Facebook page of Pearson Fitness and Performance where he was a member.
“It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our dear friend, Johnny Brennan,” read the post.
“A powerlifter, a gentleman and a true friend.
“Johnny had a huge impact on us all here in the gym. He has left a lasting impression and void that can never be filled.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this sad time.”
Elsewhere, a St Stephen’s Day walk organised by Borris-Kilcotton GAA club has been postponed as a mark of respect.
John is reposing in his home from 7pm this Monday evening (Christmas Eve) with Rosary at 9pm and again on Tuesday (Christmas Day) with Rosary at 8pm.
His funeral mass takes place on Wednesday (St Stephen’s Day) in Killasmeestia Church at 1.30pm with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. House private on Wednesday morning.
Gardai are interested in speaking to anyone who was travelling on the R435 between Borris in Ossory and Rathdowney between 8.30am and 9.30am on Sunday morning that have any information.
Also Gardai are interested if any Dash Cam footage is available from any vehicle on the R435 between 8.30am and 9.30am.
