Laois student off to New Zealand on top Ag Science scholarship

A Laois Agricultural Science student has been awarded a prestigious overseas travel bursary.

Andrew Mansfield from Rathdowney was among six others to receive the Agricultural Science Association professional Work Experience travel bursaries.

The bursaries are in association with Glanbia and the Irish Farmers Journal.

The award will permit Andrew to travel to New Zealand, where he will spend four months on a large dairy farm.

Andrew, who is in his second year at Waterford IT, said: “I have such an interest in the dairy sector of agriculture and to me New Zealand always seemed synonymous with this industry”.

The travel bursaries are designed to encourage students to broaden their knowledge and travel internationally to gain experience in the global agri-food sector.

The six students, from Waterford IT, will benefit from the awards, which will support them on them on work placements in the USA, New Zealand and Chile.

Andrew is looking forward to the experience and believes he will learn a lot more in New Zealand.
