In Pictures: Portlaoise FET Centre celebrate National Adult Learners Week

There was great excitement in Portlaoise FET Centre as they celebrated both National Adult Learners week and Pancake Tuesday.

Portlaoise FET Centre we offer adult literacy courses, intensive literacy courses, ESOL classes, QQI modules at Levels 1-5 and a range of night classes.

Youthreach, Community Education, Adult Guidance Services and Skills for Work are also based at the building at Tower Hill.

Currently there are approximately 300 learners enrolled in the centre, not including outreach adult literacy services in other areas of the community.

Portlaoise FET recently did a bit of interior work and developed a Reading Hub in our canteen. This area includes a World Map, creating by art tutor Mary Delaney and her students.

This is extremely useful for their Adult Literacy Service and it is hoped that this area will become an integral part of the centre.

It is being used as a shared space where learners can relax, read a book at their leisure, and develop a love of reading with the support of the staff here if required.

Prior to this, one of the tutors, Padraig, completed a pancake cooking demonstration showing how you can incorporate mathematical concepts into the cooking of a pancake!

If anyone is interested in finding out more, you can please drop in at any stage or call in to the Open Day on May 15.
