It was an extremely busy Saturday of GAA action with schools, colleges, club and inter-county games down for decision.
It was an historic day for Knockbeg as their U-16s reached the All-Ireland final while a Laois woman was involved as UL claimed the O’Connor Cup.
The Laois camogie and Laois senior hurling teams were also in action while the top two Divisions in the club football league also got underway.
Defending champions O’Dempsey’s made a winning start while so too did Portlaoise and Ballyroan-Abbey in Division 1A.
Arles-Killeen’s great start to 2019 is over as they fell to Mountmellick in Division 1B where there were also victories for Ballylinan and Stradbally (who played on Friday).
