€60,000 funding available for seven Laois projects under the Historic Structures Fund and heritage investment scheme

A total of €60,000 in funding has been allocated for seven Laois projects under the Historic Structures Fund and Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2019.

This is according to Laois/Offaly TD and Minister for Justice & Equality, Charlie Flanagan.

This €60,000 for seven Laois projects comes of total €4.3 million for 478 heritage projects across the country.

The successful Laois applicants are as follows:

 
Abbeyleix Old Church Demesne, Abbeyleix, Co. Laois Church of Ireland church Mitigation of damp, Lime rendering €10,000
Town Hall, Parnell Street Mountmellick, Co. Laois Town Hall External wall repair €10,000
St. Paul’s Church, French Church Street, Portarlington, Co. Laois Church of Ireland church Repair and upgrading of historic windows €10,000
Thatched House Raheenahoran The Heath, Portlaoise, Co. Laois House Thatching €6,000
Tinnakill House Raheen, Mountrath, Co. Laois House Stabilisation of masonry €5,000
St. Fintan’s Church  The Square, Durrow, Co. Laois Church of Ireland church Roof repair, structures & coverings including leadwork €12,000
Oatlands Green Road, Ballyroan, Co. Laois House Interior structural repair, external joinery repair €7,000

 

Minister Flanagan said: “The funding, which is provided by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and administered by Laois County Council and is a really welcome boost for the built heritage of County Laois.

“The grants will support the owners and custodians of historic and protected structures as they carry out hundreds of small-scale, labour-intensive projects to repair and conserve our historic built environment.

“As well as preserving our local heritage which is so important in terms of regeneration of our communities, these projects also give a great boost for local jobs in conservation, traditional skills and construction.

This year, the grants range from €2,500 to €200,000 per project and will be used for the conservation and renovation of all kinds of historic structures,” Minister Flanagan concluded.
