For this week’s Women in Sport, we decided to change it up a bit and do a video interview.
The focus of this week’s interview is a young woman who has contributed a colossal amount to both Irish paralympics and Irish sport as a whole – Nicole Turner.
In March it was revealed that the Paralympic athlete and Portarlington teenager Nicole Turner was chosen as the Ambassador for the Olympic of Ireland Sport Federation.
The Transition Year student also represented Ireland in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Aged only 14 at the time, she qualified for an amazing five finals in Brazil.
In May 2017, she received a civic reception in Laois County Council for her glowing contribution to paralympic and Laois swimming. 2017 also saw her receive the title of ‘Para Swimmer of the Year.’
Last year, the Portarlington teenager earned herself a silver medal in the women’s 50 metre butterfly in the European Para Swimming Championships in Dublin.
We spoke to the world class athlete herself, about her plans for a possible appearance in the Toyko games in 2020 and took a look around Colaiste Iosagain Portarlington to see a day in the life of the TY student.
