The Ireland U20 Women’s basketball team have made it through to the division B semi-final of the European championships.

This magnificent feat mean they will come up against Bulgaria in the last four this Saturday at 3.30pm.

Claire Melia of the Portlaoise Panthers is on the Irish side.

A name known in all basketball circles throughout Ireland, the Portlaoise Panthers U-20 captain worked for a lifetime’s worth of achievements, including captaining her Ireland U-18 to the European Championship final in 2017.

Melia made the difficult return from having a ruptured ACL to be back competing at the top levels in Irish basketball.

She also helped lead the Panthers U-20 Women to the prestigious National Cup final in January.

A clip below, now doing the rounds on the internet, comes from Ireland’s math versus Croatia, where they claimed a 66-53 victory to reach the final four.

It shows Enya Maguire of Ulster University Elks using a cheeky bit of skill to play an inbound pass off the back of an opponent and follow up with a basket.
